{"id":100940,"date":"2025-07-09T10:32:39","date_gmt":"2025-07-09T08:32:39","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.izkf.med.fau.de\/?page_id=100940"},"modified":"2025-09-12T08:21:28","modified_gmt":"2025-09-12T06:21:28","slug":"synergy-projekte","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.izkf.med.fau.de\/en\/elan\/synergy-projekte\/","title":{"rendered":"Synergy Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Synergy Projects<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"rrze-elements alert clearfix clear\"> Synergy Projects are used as pilot financing for planned joint projects <\/div>\n\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Aims of Synergy funding<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The aim of Synergy funding is to support the constituent work for planned joint projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Application and requirements<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Synergy projects can be applied for as pilot funding for planned research alliances with a maximum volume of \u20ac300,000 per project by 3-6 applicants from at least three different institutions for a maximum funding period of 24 months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There is no age limit for applicants in Synergy projects and no restriction to persons without a management function, but the scientific independence of each individual applicant must be confirmed. It is also possible for individual applicants to participate if they already have IZKF funding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Applications for Synergy projects must be submitted <a href=\"https:\/\/flexap-erlangenizkf.cloud.la2.io\/login\">via the new IZKF application tool (FlexAP)<\/a>. Please use the IZKF templates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The internal pre-review is coordinated by the Chair of the ELAN Commission. If the internal review is successful, the second step is the review by the Scientific Advisory Board of the IZKF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The reviewers pay particular attention to the chance of a successful application for a research network in the near future (research group, SFB, TRR, RTG, etc.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Fund volume<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For Synergy projects, the funding amount is a maximum of 300 T\u20ac per project, which can be spent flexibly on consumables and staff over a maximum of 2 years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Modification notes<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><div class=\"rrze-elements accordion style_default\" id=\"accordion-0\"><\/div>\n<br><div class=\"accordion-group\">\n<h2 class=\"accordion-heading\"><button class=\"accordion-toggle\" data-toggle=\"collapse\"  href=\"#collapse_0\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"collapse_0\" id=\"collapse_button_0\"> Changes in the funding line ELAN <\/button><\/h2>\n<div id=\"collapse_0\" class=\"accordion-body\" aria-labelledby=\"collapse_button_0\">\n<div class=\"accordion-inner clearfix\">\n<p>Dear Professor, dear ladies and gentlemen,<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">The IZKF Management Board has decided on <strong>important changes in the IZKF&#8217;s ELAN programme<\/strong> on the suggestion of the ELAN -Committee:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">The ELAN funding line will be provided with additional funds; \u20ac1.5 million per year will be available in the future<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">Subsequent ELAN funding <strong>is also available to applicants over the age of 38<\/strong>, provided there is no other project funding in the IZKF. Young scientists and newly appointed researchers continue to enjoy priority when allocating funding. The independent funding line for bridge projects will be discontinued.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">As with IZKF projects, the <strong>funding volume<\/strong> for regular ELAN projects (individual projects) will in future be limited to <strong>one position<\/strong> (TA or doctoral student with 65%) and <strong>\u20ac 15,000<\/strong> for consumables over (as before) 12 months; the strict upper limit of \u20ac 60,000&nbsp; does not apply, younger physicians who submit an ELAN application can also apply for a rotation position for 6 months full-time or 12 months part-time<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">For regular ELAN projects, a <strong>bonus<\/strong> of one third of the funding amount (max. \u20ac 20,000) will be introduced if an application for third-party funding is submitted to an external funding organization with an assessment procedure within the regular project period. The bonus period (period for disbursing the bonus funds) is 6 months.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\"><strong>access to the special programmes<\/strong> of the IZKF will be extended for project leaders in the ELAN programme, in addition to the travel and publication pool, young scientists will also be able to apply for travel grants in the future<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<li><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">In addition to individual projects, s<strong>ynergy projects<\/strong> can also be applied for in the future as pilot financing for planned joint projects with a maximum volume of \u20ac 300,000 per project (change from 200,000 euros in April 2023) by 3-6 applicants from at least three different institutions. There is no age limit for applicants in synergy projects. Participation of individual applicants is also possible with existing IZKF funding.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">The new regulations <strong>apply to all new projects to be submitted<\/strong>.<\/span><\/span> <span class=\"JLqJ4b ChMk0b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">For project proposals that have already been submitted, there is a transition period up to the end of 2022 at the latest, during which the earlier regulations (in particular with regard to the application volume) can still apply.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">Please note the general application requirements for ELAN projects:<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">ELAN pilot projects provide particular funds for junior researchers from the entire Faculty of Medicine, as start-up, pilot and\/or interim funding for a period of up to 12 month as well as for pilot funding for synergy projects (max. 24 months).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p>(i) in advance of planned third-party funded projects (start-up funding),<\/p>\n<p>(ii) for developing working groups (support for young researchers),<\/p>\n<p>(iii) for new innovative projects (pilot projects),<\/p>\n<p>(iv) as interim funding in case of time gaps between individual funding periods (bridging projects) or<\/p>\n<p>(v) as funding for planned synergy projects.<\/p>\n<p>Applications can be submitted by young researchers with a doctorate (without leadership). At least one original publication as first author in a peer-reviewed journal is necessary. Funding is primarily available to applicants who have not yet reached the age of 38 at the time of application, <span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">as well as newly appointed professors without leadership (usually within the first two years of taking office). <\/span><\/span><\/span>Maternity leave, parental leave and care periods extend that limit. Additional funds are also available for applicants outside the age limit without a management function. F<span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">There is no age limit or non-executive restriction on Synergy projects.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">No more than one application may be funded in the ELAN program at any given time. Simultaneous funding in another project funding instrument of the IZKF or through the Marohn Foundation is not possible. Funding in the ELAN and Junior Projects can, however, be used one after the other. Exceptions to this rule are the synergy projects, which can also be applied for in parallel with other IZKF funding. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">Applicants must be employed at the Universit\u00e4tsklinikum Erlangen or the FAU Erlangen-Nuremberg at an institute of the Faculty of Medicine at the latest at the time of approval. For regular ELAN projects, only one person can be named per application; for synergy projects, there must be 3-6 applicants from at least three different institutions. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"VIiyi\" lang=\"en\"><span class=\"JLqJ4b\"><span class=\"Q4iAWc\">Applications for individual projects must be submitted using the ELAN tool; Applications for synergy projects by e-mail to the IZKF office (izkf@fau.de). There is no fixed deadline for submitting project proposals for regular ELAN projects. Applications for synergy projects may be submitted twice per year; the deadline is January 15th and July 15th. The ELAN-Committee makes the funding decision for regular ELAN projects at its meetings; an external review usually takes place parallel to the internal review.
